What you'll get

A real personality profile, not a 4-letter type.

  • Five domain scores. Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism — your percentile against the IPIP normative sample.
  • Thirty facet scores. Each domain breaks into six facets (Imagination, Trust, Anxiety, etc.) — the level of detail academic researchers actually use.
  • Plain-English interpretation. What each high/low score actually predicts — for your own self-understanding, not for selling you a course.
  • Resume on any device. Your answers save in your browser. Walk away and come back later. No login required.

What we don't do

What we WON'T ask for

Most "free" personality tests gate the result behind an email, a "personalized report" upsell, or a Linkedin-account link. This page does none of those things. Take the test, see your scores, close the tab. Your data stays in your browser's local storage — we don't see it.

The reason this page exists isn't a growth funnel — it's that we genuinely think Big Five literacy is good for the world. If knowing your scores leads you to want to find friends who fit them, Are We Friends? is one click away. If not, no pressure.

Frequently asked

Is this the real IPIP-NEO-120?

Yes — the verbatim 120 items from John Johnson's IPIP-NEO-120 instrument, public domain, sourced from ipip.ori.org. No paraphrasing, no shortening.

Why is it free?

The IPIP-NEO is public domain — anyone can administer it. We're hosting it ungated because most other free Big Five tests gate the result behind an email signup or a paid 'detailed report.' That's gross. Take the test, see your scores, leave if you want.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes for most people. The form auto-saves to your browser — you can close the tab and finish later.

Do you store my answers?

No. Your answers and scores are saved only in your browser's localStorage. We don't run analytics on this page. We don't see the answers. If you sign up later, you can choose to import the saved scores into your Are We Friends? profile — which lets you skip the test on the authenticated product side.

How is this different from the test on Are We Friends?

It's the same instrument with the same scoring. The signed-in version on Are We Friends? saves your scores to our database (encrypted at rest), uses them to compute Match Scores against other members, and lets you re-take or refine over time. The free version here is the test by itself — perfect if you just want to know your Big Five profile and aren't sure yet about joining a friendship app.

Can I share my results?

Not from this page directly (we don't store your data, so there's nothing to share a link to). If you sign up for Are We Friends? and import your scores, your public profile shows your domain breakdown to anyone with the link.
