Who can use Friends?

You must be at least 18 years old. Friends? is for adults. If we find out you're under 18 we'll close the account.

You must be able to enter into a legally binding contract in your jurisdiction. One human, one account — no bots, no automated signups, no scraping.

Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account and your handle. Pick a strong password, don't share it, and don't share your DM passphrase — we can't recover it for you.

If we suspect your account is compromised we may lock it, notify you, and require a reset. If you want to close your account, email yourfriend@arewefriends.org with subject "Delete account" — we'll purge your data within seven days.

Content you post

You keep ownership of everything you post — profile bio, feed posts, photos, meetup descriptions. You grant us a non-exclusive license to display and deliver that content to other members of the product. We don't sell your content or train external models on it.

Don't post anything you don't have the rights to post. Don't impersonate another person. Don't post anything illegal in your jurisdiction. We will remove content and close accounts that violate these rules.

Behavior

Friends? is for real friendship, not romantic pursuit, not commercial outreach. If you harass another member, stalk them off the platform, or attempt to pressure them into anything, we will close your account and may cooperate with law enforcement.

We treat safety reports (yourfriend@arewefriends.org, subject "Safety report") seriously and aim to respond within 24 hours. You can also block any member from their profile — the block is immediate and two-way.

Subscriptions and payments

Friends? offers a free tier and three paid tiers: Friend+ ($7.99/mo), Social ($14.99/mo), and Founders' ($29.99/mo, capped at 1,000 lifetime seats). Yearly pricing is shown at checkout.

Billing runs through Stripe. Subscriptions auto-renew until you cancel. Cancel anytime from Settings → Billing or through the Stripe customer portal — access continues until the end of your current billing period. We don't auto-issue refunds for partial months, but we'll consider refund requests case by case; email yourfriend@arewefriends.org.

If a payment fails we'll retry for a short grace period and downgrade to Free if it keeps failing.

The Friend? AI

Friend? is a language-model assistant built into the product. It can be wrong. Double-check anything that matters — addresses, hours, prices, safety-relevant details. Don't rely on Friend? for medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice.

Your chats with Friend? are sent to one or more third-party AI providers (Cerebras, Groq, Anthropic) for processing. Those providers operate under their own terms. We do not send your end-to-end encrypted DMs with other humans through any AI.

Encryption and key recovery

Your DM private keys are wrapped with your passphrase in your browser and are never sent to our servers in unwrapped form. If you forget your passphrase, we cannot recover your old messages. This is by design — if we could recover your keys, so could a court order. Start a new passphrase and move forward.

Service availability

Friends? is provided "as is." We aim for high uptime but do not guarantee it. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. If we shut down the product we'll give reasonable notice and an export of your data.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Qira LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Friends?. Our total aggregate liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or (b) one hundred dollars. Some jurisdictions don't allow this limitation; in that case it applies to the maximum extent allowed.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes that can't be resolved informally go to state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona.

If any section of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we don't enforce a provision for a time, that's not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Changes

We'll update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be emailed to you and posted at the top of this page. Continued use of the product after a change means you accept the new terms.
